Terms of Service

These terms are between you and Ambit Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16980164), trading as usability.cat ("we", "us", "our"). By using usability.cat, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. Service Description

usability.cat is an AI-powered usability and security audit service. You provide a URL, and our system analyses the page for usability issues, security vulnerabilities, and generates a detailed report with scores, findings, and actionable fix prompts.

We offer the following scan types:

Reports are generated by AI and represent automated analysis, not professional consulting or penetration testing services.

2. Lives & Account

Lives (Currency)

• Each scan costs a specific number of lives as shown in the table above.
• Every new account receives 3 free lives. No credit card is required.
• Additional lives are purchased in packs via one-time payments. Lives are not subscriptions — there are no recurring charges.
• Lives never expire. Use them whenever you are ready.
• Lives are non-transferable between accounts.
• We reserve the right to modify pack pricing with reasonable notice.

Paw Ratings

Each scan produces a paw rating (1-5 paws) based on your score. Paw ratings are designed to be shared and embedded as badges on your websites, READMEs, and portfolios.

Earning Lives

You may earn additional lives through the following actions:

• Referrals: When someone you refer signs up and runs their first scan, both you and the referred user receive 3 lives.
• Sharing reports: When you share a report and it receives a unique visitor, you earn 1 life.
• Improving your score: If a re-scan of the same URL shows an improved paw rating, you earn 1 life.
• Achieving 5 paws: The first time any of your scans scores 90+ (5 paws), you earn 3 lives.

We reserve the right to modify, cap, or discontinue any earning mechanism to prevent abuse.

Free Re-scans

The first re-scan of the same URL within 14 days of the original scan is free. Subsequent re-scans cost the standard number of lives.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Submit URLs that you do not own or have permission to audit.
• Use the service to attack, scrape, or interfere with third-party websites.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or abuse the audit system.
• Create multiple accounts to exploit free lives or referral bonuses.
• Abuse the referral system through fake accounts, self-referral, or referral rings.
• Use automated tools to bulk-submit URLs beyond normal usage.
• Resell or redistribute reports without permission.
• Misrepresent paw ratings, modify badge content, or display badges for scans you did not conduct.
• Use the security scanning features to gather information for malicious purposes.

We reserve the right to suspend accounts and forfeit remaining lives for violations of these terms.

4. Intellectual Property

• Your content: You retain ownership of your URLs and any data you provide.
• Our reports: Audit reports are generated for your use. You may share them, but the underlying AI models, scoring methodology, and analysis engine remain our property.
• Fix prompts: AI-generated fix prompts are provided as suggestions. They are generated based on your scan and may be used freely in your projects. We make no guarantees about their accuracy or completeness.
• Paw badges: Embeddable badges and OG share cards are provided for display on your own sites and social media. Badges must link back to usability.cat. Misrepresenting scores or modifying badge content is prohibited.
• Our brand: The usability.cat name, cat mascot, and associated branding are our intellectual property and may not be used without permission.

5. Security Scanning (Shield)

Our security scanning features check for common vulnerabilities through passive analysis only. We do not perform penetration testing, active exploitation, or any form of attack against your infrastructure.

Security scans analyse publicly accessible information including HTTP headers, client-side JavaScript bundles, SSL/TLS configuration, and authentication surfaces. Findings are informational and should be verified by a qualified security professional before acting on them.

You acknowledge that:

• Security findings are based on automated analysis and may contain false positives or miss vulnerabilities.
• We are not responsible for any security incidents, even if a vulnerability was not detected by our scans.
• Security scanning should complement, not replace, professional security assessments.

6. Payments & Refunds

• Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
• All prices are in GBP (£) unless otherwise stated.
• Lives packs are one-time purchases, not subscriptions.
• Refund policy: Unused lives may be refunded within 14 days of purchase, provided no lives from the pack have been used. Once any lives from a pack are consumed, the pack is non-refundable. Contact us at meow@usability.cat for refund requests.
• If a scan fails due to a technical error on our end, the lives spent will be refunded to your account automatically.

7. Data & Privacy

• We store the URLs you submit, the resulting reports, screenshots, and analysis data.
• We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
• Page screenshots, JavaScript bundles, and analysis data are processed to generate reports and may be retained for service improvement.

8. Disclaimers

• Reports and fix prompts are generated by AI and represent automated analysis, not professional consulting advice.
• Scores and recommendations may vary between scans as our models improve.
• We do not guarantee that implementing suggested fixes will achieve specific outcomes.
• Security scan results are informational and should not be relied upon as the sole basis for security decisions.
• The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ambit Labs Ltd and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for lives in the preceding 12 months.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the website or email. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
